5:00 A.M. June 31, 1914 Bombs exploded outside my window. I gasped and my eyes flew open, just as a missile was shot from one of the Russian cannons. My heart pounded in my chest, but I was to petrified to move. I had to get out. Another bomb exploded, but this was right around the corner! Heart racing, I sat up and swung my legs over the side of my bed, then unstabley stood, struggling to stay on my feet. A missile whistled past my window, flashing its Russian stripes at me. Suddenly, a loud explosion sounded above my apartment room, causing me go screech and explode out of my room. My mother stood in the hallway a few feet away, assisting my grandma out. An earsplitting cry sounded from my little brothers room. And without thinking, I tore through the livingroom to my brothers door. The door swung open, and I bustled in. Reaching inside his cradle, I grabbed him, turned, and ran. My heart pounded in my chest, and I emerged into the livingroom. Mother was already gone, making her way down the stairs with my grandmother. I was 13, I could escape like I did so many times before. Heart racing, I pounded through the living room and burst into the hallway of the apartment complex. Quickly,I started running. Suddenly, a whistle sounded just outside the thin walls. A mistile exploded into the tight space, and the room filled with dust and smoke. Knowing the apartment like the back of my hand, I turned heel and ran the other way. Then, the window shattered and came three German soldiers.

5:59 A.M. June 31, 1914 A crumbling wooden door stood next to me, barely on its hinges. The soldiers hadn't looked this way, so with a moment of hesitation, I sidestepped inside. The room was empty, half of it torn away from the missile that had colided with the building. The only things that remained were a destroyed TV, counters, crushed sofa's, and a little worn out puppy stuffed animal that lay before me. This room was the room for the Crags! They were new, and they deserved nothing like this. Suddenly, I heard boots stumbling towards the room. Heart racing, I looked around desperately for a place to hide. A torn off vent was located about a yard away, and without hesitation, I dashed over to it. Careful not to wake my brother, I swung down and crawled in. Good thing I had soft slippers on! Because my feet thrummed against the echoing bottom of the vent. The German soldiers neared, and terror shot through me. It was still a long way yet to the corner! I pushed up against the side of the vent, my heart racing like never before. Dont look here, don't look here! I begged in my mind. In my mind, I was watching a PG13 movie, on th edge of my seat, watching myself tremble.
A few minutes had passed, so I guessed that they had looked through the room. Suddenly, the clomping boots neared the vent. Terror bolted through me once more. I could hear them whispering to each other, but couldn't understand it because they spoke in German. I saw a boot land before the vent, and it was covered in black suit when that soldier bent over. The man lowered his head to look inside, and locked eyes with me.
