The sky was dark and a thick blanket of snow layered the earth. The lake was pure ice. But as Sunclan made their way swiftly past, Leopardstar shrank away with a hiss.
When she was a kit, her brother, Shatteredkit, escaped from camp. The stream that marked the border with Sunclan and Streamclan was frozen with ice. At first, Leopardkit had refused to come, but followed. Shatteredkit leaned to the ice, thinking it would support him, but the constantly moving water shaved down the ice to paper thin sheets. Suddenly, the ice was broken and Shatteredkit was dead within seconds. His decaying body is still somewhere in the water.
Leopardstar quickened her pace until she was practically running through the snow. The lake was far from her mind as she scrambled over the log with a racing heart. "What a surprise." She hissed, walking into an empty clearing.
